Cyclone Ditwah has weakened into a deep depression but continues to bring heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Sri Lanka. Three people have died in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu, while the Indian Air Force has rescued stranded civilians in flood-hit regions of Sri Lanka. Authorities warn of continued rainfall and localized flooding as the system moves inland.
Cyclone Ditwah continues to impact South India and Sri Lanka even as the storm weakens into a deep depression.
Several regions across Tamil Nadu experienced intense rainfall, leading to widespread waterlogging, disrupted transport, and emergency response efforts.
Three Dead in Tamil Nadu
Officials confirmed that three people lost their lives in rain-related incidents. Chennai and surrounding districts witnessed heavy downpours throughout the day, with authorities urging residents to avoid flooded zones and follow safety advisories.
Sri Lanka Flooding: IAF Steps In
Sri Lanka faced severe flooding as rivers overflowed and landslides damaged roads and homes. The Indian Air Force deployed helicopters to rescue stranded civilians, transporting them to safer locations as conditions worsened.
More Rain Expected
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that although Cyclone Ditwah has weakened, it will continue to deliver moderate to heavy rains to Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into rough seas.
Authorities on Alert
Disaster response teams in both India and Sri Lanka remain deployed. Relief centers, medical camps, and emergency hotlines have been activated to assist affected communities. Cyclone Ditwah’s weakening has reduced wind threats, but authorities warn that persistent rainfall and flooding risks remain high over the next 24–48 hours.
