Gautam Gambhir Shares Heartwarming Moment With Virat Kohli After Record-Breaking 135 In 1st ODI

India head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a touching moment with Virat Kohli after the star batter smashed a sensational 135 against South Africa in the first ODI in Ranchi on Sunday. Kohli, returning to action after more than a month, delivered a vintage performance, bringing up his record-extending 52nd ODI century.

The 120-ball masterpiece featured 11 fours and seven sixes, and during the knock, Kohli also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 51 Test centuries, making him the player with the most centuries in a single international format. Once Kohli was dismissed in the 43rd over, Gambhir walked up to him in the dressing room, offering a handshake and a warm hug. Photos of the heartfelt exchange quickly went viral on social media, with fans praising the camaraderie between the two. Kohli’s dominance at the JSCA Stadium continued as he powered India to a massive 349/8. The 37-year-old, who had struggled earlier during the Australia tour with two early ducks, bounced back strongly by ending that series with an unbeaten 74 and now a match-defining hundred in Ranchi.

His dismissal came courtesy of a brilliant running catch by Ryan Rickelton, but the milestone remained historic: this marked Kohli’s 83rd international century and also the 7000th century in men’s international cricket overall. Kohli’s record at Ranchi remains extraordinary 519 runs in six innings, averaging 173, including three centuries and a fifty, striking at 110.19. Currently retired from T20Is and Tests, Kohli continues to represent India solely in ODIs, where his dominance shows no signs of slowing down.
